In February 2007 a group of women from the Dubai Adventure Mums went down to the Le Meridin Mina Seyahi Dubai to try out a new Adventure called Dragon Boating. The water a little cold but the experience was exhilarating! From that morning on, they have been hooked! They continued to paddle several mornings a week and the group started to grow steadily, with other women wanting to take on the challenge. They paddled together as a team having lots of fun, laughs and getting fit as well!An International Dragon Boat Race in Penang was mentioned in mid March and this was just the challenge that some of the women were looking for. From that time on they were committed to training and the camaraderie continued to grow empowering them to train hard and grow into a very positive team. They went to the Penang International Dragon Boat Races in June 2007 and came third in the 500mtr Womans Sprint Race! This was a fantastic achievement as they had only been together for 3 months. Also being one of the first Teams to represent from the UAE, these women all had other commitments to family and work, but managed this great achievement which was very empowering for the whole team and a great representation for Dubai.The team has continued to paddle through out the summer months and into the New Year encouraging new people to come and join the team. With the interest of spouses, sons, daughters and friends wanting to paddle, Debbie Magee (Team Captain and Manager) decided to establish the Dubai Sea Dragons Dragon Boat Club, so they could welcome spirited Men & Women & Junior's to come and join the Club!The first AGM for the Dubai Sea Dragons Club was held on the 1st. November 2007 and it is now an independent club, affiliated with the IDBF, DBA Federation & training out of the Mina Seyahi Dubai.With people coming and going from Dubai, it is important to encourage community spirit and to get them to come and try something new! With Dragon Boating and the Dubai Sea Dragons, you will meet like minded people, achieve new challenges and also get fit. We have a lot of fun, whether you just what to be a social paddler or you want to take it a step further - there is a place on the team for you! There is nothing better than getting out on the water and Waking up the Dragons!
